Our History

On a cold winter evening in February 2015, some friends sat around a dinner table and explored ideas on helping to solve the problems of unhoused people in Toronto. After much discussion, they united behind a simple idea: CLEAN SOCKS. These five friends then became the founding members of Socks 4 Souls Canada (S4SC).

By March 2015, S4SC had already begun the journey to both collect and acquire socks for distribution to people experiencing homelessness as a not-for-profit and our 100% volunteer organization.

In each subsequent year, socks and financial donations have increased. Over 400 committed volunteers have become involved over the years, and the footprint of the charitable coverage has greatly expanded.

Since 2015, we have distributed over 750,000 pairs of new, clean socks in Toronto and the GTA, with some broader outreach in SW Ontario. In the past 4 years, we have annually distributed socks to 116-185 shelters, Out of the Cold and other programs that support unhoused people in Ontario.

Our intent is to continue to expand in Ontario, with a longer-term view that the S4SC concept can be scaled up to other jurisdictions across Canada as we consistently receive requests for socks from all over the country.

Everything we do is powered by the generous support of our volunteer community, financial and sock donations of our strategic partners, corporations, small business enterprises, private citizens, and the leadership and guidance of our Board of Directors.
